Simple Wind - Blow Some Life Into Your Scene!
Simple Wind - Blow Some Life Into Your Scene
Make your scene look alive with this procedural, customizable wind system.
You've finally finished modeling a detailed scene, you're about to press render, but something is still missing. The scene looks lifeless. As if time has been stopped.
Why? We hardly notice it, but our environment is constantly moving. Whether it's trees moving in the wind or laundry hanging on a clothesline, swinging back and forth. If you don't want to run a simulation for everything, or if you don't want to rig every object to animate it, this geometry node system is the right thing for you!
Look at the difference the "Simple Wind" system can make!

Features:
The objects with the "Simple Wind" system can all be customized individually. In addition, all objects that share the same system can be changed globally.
It is possible to layer several "Simple Wind" systems on an object without any problems in order to achieve a higher level of detail with different wind frequencies.
The system automatically calculates a vertical transition from the lowest to the highest vertex so that, for example, a plant remains still on the ground while the upper part moves with the wind. This is meant to save you some annoying weight painting work. Especially if the object is very simple anyway and doesn't need a detailed "wind map".
If you don't like this and need some more flexibility, then it is of course possible to give the system a vertex group that decides which part of the object moves and how much it moves.
The effect is similar to the "Simple Grass Wind" node in the Unreal Engine, but with much more settings and flexibility:
The Download Files
The download includes a file with the "Simple Wind" system, which you can then transfer to your own scenes. Also included in the blend file are 3 examples of how the system can be used. (With and without vertex group.)
When you open the geometry nodes tree, you will see 3 text boxes describing everything you need to know. The rest is up to your creativity.
Have fun with the system!
